Code of PracticeVenom-Tec adhere to the following Code of Practice in relation to the breeding, handling and selling of snakes, which is in accordance with procedures approved by the Federation of British Herpetologists.
- The proprietor of Venom-Tec, Mr Brian Llewellyn, is an approved breeder and keeper of venomous and non-venomous snakes and is a Dangerous Wild Animal Licence holder.
- All snakes offered for sale have been bred by Venom-Tec (unless otherwise stated), and records have been maintained of their feeding, behaviour and medical requirements.
- All snakes have been housed in conditions appropriate to the physical, biological and behavioural needs of each species.
- Reasonable precautions have been taken to prevent the outbreak and spread of disease and all animals offered for sale are healthy and well. A qualified veterinary surgeon is used when required to attend to animals that are showing signs of distress or sickness.
- Buyers are encouraged to have animals inspected by a vet of their choice prior to completing the sale.
- Snakes are always handled with care to minimise stress to the animal and ensure that no damage occurs.
- If requested by you, we will provide written care and welfare instructions for animals sold, including first aid instructions where appropriate, and after sale advice.
- Venomous and dangerous snakes can only be sold to suitably experienced snake owners who are in possession of a current Dangerous Wild Animal Licence. A copy of the licence must be produced at the time the sale is effected and the buyer must produce proof of identity.
- Owing to the lack of suitable carriers within the UK, British buyers must call to collect their animals from Venom-Tec and have suitable and appropriate means to safely transport the snake. Venom-Tec are unable to provide containers unless this has been specifically agreed in advance of the collection date.
- If a buyer arrives without suitable transportation equipment or licence where appropriate, Venom-Tec will not permit the animal to be removed from their premises.
- Snakes must be transported in accordance with the IATA Live Animal Regulations.
- Animals will not be sold to persons under sixteen years of age unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
- We will provide details of a local South Wales veterinary surgeon who is experienced in handling snakes on request.
- Shipping Abroad - arrangements can be made to ship animals abroad provided all fees and air-freight costs have been paid to Venom-Tec in advance, and the buyer is able to provide copies of appropriate licences for the country of import, including an import authorisation if one is required. Animals will be air-freighted in appropriate containers in accordance with the UK's IATA Live Animal Regulations.

Terms of SaleAll transactions are carried out in in accordance with the Sale of Goods Act and the Supply of Goods & Services Act.
|
- UK buyers must call at Venom-Tec's premises to inspect and view animals prior to purchase to ensure that they are in good condition prior to making the purchase.
- If a veterinary health certificate is required, this can be provided at an additional charge and is subject to being given adequate notice to arrange the inspection prior to the date of the sale.
- Payment must be made in full and cheques cleared through the banking system prior to removing the animal from Venom-Tec's premises.
- Buyers must ensure that they provide a suitable secure and appropriate container to transport the animal in accordance with the IATA Live Animal Regulations.
- Buyers must be over 16 years of age and produce a copy of their current Dangerous Wild Animal Licence if they are buying a snake which is venomous or considered dangerous.
- We recommend that you keep your new snake in quarantine for a period of 60 days before introducing it to your own stock. It is also adviseable to have it examined by your own qualified veterinary practioner during the quarantine period.
- All animals sold by Venom-Tec are in good condition, healthy and free from disease or distress, and a record of their feeding and medical records will be provided on request.
- If an animal shows signs of distress or sickness within 24 hours of purchase, then it may be returned to Venom-Tec for an immediate and full refund.
- Unfortunately if an animal develops problems after 24 hours have elapsed from time of purchase, Venom-Tec cannot accept responsibility for the animal's welfare during the period the animal has been in the care of the buyer. Such animals therefore cannot be returned.
- In the event of a dispute arising, Venom-Tec request buyers to contact their Trading Standards Department, Citizens Advice Bureau or the conciliation service at the Federation of British Herpetologists.
